Hello and welcome! My name is Mushfiqur Aiman; I am an 8th grade student at George J. Ryan M.S. 216 who is on their way to Brooklyn Technical High School High School. This portfolio contains artifacts showcasing my work in ELA this past school year. Some things you should know about me as a student are that I am very good at writing essays (at least on the 8th grade level), I *usually* try my best in all of my classes, and I am committed to making improvements in all aspects of my life. Some things you should know about me as a person is that I love/am interested in coding (which is why I made this website), I love playing games, and I love doing things that I definitely shouldn't be doing. Overall, from this past year, I can describe myself as a great student in ELA because I have improved a lot in essay writing, reading comprehension, etc. My goal of this portfolio is to show you how much I've growed over these past 9 months.

Start of Year:

Overall Reading Level: Early 8th

Vocabulary: Early 8th

Comp. (Fiction): Late 8th

Comp. (Nonfiction): Early 8th

Score: 662 points

End of Year:

Overall Reading Level: Late 8th

Vocabulary: Early 9th

Comp. (Fiction): Late 8th

Comp. (Nonfiction): Early 10th

Growth: +20 points

As you can see, I improved my scores in Comp. (Nonfiction) and Vocabulary categories the most. My strongest category is Comp. (Nonfiction) and one area I can still improve in is Comp. (Fiction). My overall growth is +20 points and from Early 8th to Late 8th. I feel I have grown as a reader mainly because I can comprehend both fiction and nonfiction texts with about the same handling.

1. The Outsiders

I love The Outsiders because of how relatable it is. Even though the story's plot took place almost 60 years ago from the present day, it is still an enticing novel which readers of ages 13+ will find engaging.

2. Refugee

I love Refugee because it is a very interesting text that covers various topics, including immigration, history, and many others. These different topics are all packaged into this ≈350 page book that could be read in one sitting.

3. Sea Fever

I love Sea Fever because it reminds me of the sea/ocean which I always used to go to during the summer when I was a kid, and I still go there every summer with my family, either to go fishing, swimming, or just to see the view.
